Chintpurni Temple: Famous Shakti Peetha Heritage Una

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Chintpurni in Una district is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas - sacred sites of goddess worship - believed to be where Sati's feet fell after Vishnu's Sudarshana chakra dismembered her body. The temple draws millions of devotees annually, particularly during Navratri festival seasons. The temple architecture features the characteristic Himachali mix of stone and wood construction with the inner sanctum housing a brass image of the goddess. The temple town has developed around the pilgrimage with traditional dharmashala (rest houses) maintained by devotee communities. The Chintpurni fair during Navratri is one of Himachal's major commercial and cultural events. Folk traditions of goddess worship, processions, and devotional singing maintain living religious culture around the Shakti tradition.
