Gaya and Bodh Gaya in Bihar are among India most sacred pilgrimage destinations, drawing millions of Hindu and Buddhist visitors each year. Hindu pilgrims perform pind daan rituals on the banks of Falgu river and at Vishnupad temple to release ancestral souls. Buddhist pilgrims circumambulate the Mahabodhi Temple complex at Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site marking the spot where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment. Cooperative vendors and pujari associations in Gaya manage flower, lamp oil, and sacred thread supply for rituals. Tibetan monastery cooperative kitchens in Bodh Gaya provide free langar-style meals. Handloom weavers in nearby Paraiya village produce Buddhist monk robes sold through monastery cooperatives. Pilgrimage cooperative economy supports accommodation, transport, panda ritual guides, and prasad manufacturing for over three million visitors annually.
