Ambala Dashehri Langra Mango Orchards

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Ambala district's sub-montane belt bordering Punjab and Himachal Pradesh supports mango orchards that produce Dashehri, Langra, and Chausa varieties on the undulating bhabar soils receiving slightly higher rainfall than the Haryana plains. Ambala mango growers harvest from June to August, selling through the Ambala fruit market to wholesale buyers who supply Delhi and Chandigarh retail markets. The orchards represent a traditional diversified livelihood alongside wheat and paddy; older families maintain multi-variety orchards planted by grandparents that produce distinct flavour profiles superior to monoculture commercial plantings.
