Latur, Jul 10 (PTI) A woman farmer from Latur district has been honoured with the Maharashtra government's prestigious 'Jijamata Krishi Bhushan Award 2024' for her innovative approach to farming by integrating organic practices, modern technology and allied agricultural activities, officials said on Friday.
The award was presented to Sanjivani Angad Nagmode from Chincholirao Wadi village by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at the awards ceremony held recently at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Mumbai.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne and other ministers as well as senior officials.
Nagmode has brought a new dimension to farming by successfully combining dairy farming, goat rearing, poultry, fish farming, fruit cultivation and fodder production on her farm. Giving priority to natural farming, she has completely avoided chemical fertilisers and produces and uses organic inputs, including farmyard manure, on her own farm, a statement issued by the district information office said.
To maintain soil fertility and promote waste recycling, she has established a biogas plant, vermicompost unit, azolla (aquatic fern) production unit and composting system. The slurry generated from the biogas plant is used as organic manure, while the unit also provides a sustainable cooking fuel solution, it said. PTI COR NP
