Motihari, Jul 18 (PTI) An Uzbek woman, residing illegally in India, was arrested by security forces in Bihar's East Champaran district while allegedly attempting to flee to Nepal, officials said on Saturday.
The arrest was made by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), in coordination with Motihari police, near Maitri Bridge in the district on Thursday.
The arrested woman has been identified as Shakarzon Bozorova (31) of Xonkq village in Uzbekistan.
Upon investigation, the woman revealed she was illegally residing in Mumbai for the last one year, an official statement issued by Motihari police said.
According to a written complaint filed by SSB Sub-Inspector Mehul Kumar Som, the Border Interaction Team (BIT) intercepted an auto-rickshaw heading towards Nepal at Maitri Bridge at around 11:30 am on Thursday. Upon interrogation, it was found that the visa of the woman had expired and she was residing in India without valid documents and immigration certificate.
An FIR has been registered at Haraiya police station under BNS and relevant provisions of the Immigration & Foreigners Act, officials said.
Two mobile phones, a trolley bag, a duffel bag, a pen drive, American dollars, Rs 100 Indian currency note and Rs 62,100 in Nepali currency were seized from the woman, they added. PTI CORR SUK RG
