UP man arrested for stabbing wife to death in Saharanpur

Saharanpur (UP), Jul 8 (PTI) Police arrested a man on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his 32-year-old wife to death at her parents' house in the Harijan Colony Chhutmalpur following a domestic dispute, officials said. SHO Fatehpur police station Jitendra Singh Rana said the victim, Meenu, had been married to Sunny Saini, a resident of Rajapur village under Fatehpur police station, for the past 14 years. "The couple had marital discord for nearly a year. Owing to the dispute, Meenu had been staying at her parental home for the past few days," Rana told PTI. According to police, Sunny reached his in-laws' house around 9.30 am and allegedly attacked Meenu with a knife before family members could intervene following a domestic dispute. Police said she sustained multiple injuries and collapsed at the spot, while the accused fled. Police and a forensic team reached the scene and collected evidence. With the help of locals, Meenu was taken to a primary health centre, where doctors declared her brought dead. The SHO said a village panchayat had been convened around 22 days ago to resolve the dispute between the couple, following which Meenu's family brought her back to their home. "Three days ago, Sunny also came to meet his wife, and the two had a heated argument," the SHO said. Police said both families belong to the Dalit community. Meenu is survived by four children -- Diya (13), Charu (11), Akshay (8) and Abhinav (5) -- who, police said, had been living with their father.
