UP: Govt school teacher arrested for sexually harassing girls in Sonbhadra

Sonbhadra (UP), Jul 5 (PTI) A government school teacher was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually harassing girls in the Kon police station area of the district, police said. Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Verma said that a team arrested Tipu Sultan alias Sailani, 34, a resident of Sonbhadra district at Tilgudwa Morh in Kon. The girls are in the six-to-nine age group, the SP said, adding that further police action is underway. He added that a case has been registered against the accused teacher at Kon police station on July 1, based on a complaint lodged by the families of the harassed girls. In this regard, Basic Education Officer Mukul Anand Pandey said that villagers informed him on Friday that Assistant Teacher Tipu Sultan was teaching at a primary school in the Kon development block. He said the villagers alleged that the teacher had committed an indecent act with two young girls studying in Class 1 and Class 3. Pandey said that based on the complaint, inquiries were made with the harassed girls and other students at the school, and the allegations were found to be prima facie true.
