UP court sentences ex-village head, his associate to death in murder case

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 6 (PTI) A fast track court in Muzaffarnagar on Monday sentenced a former village head and his associate to death in the 2010 murder case, officials said. Additional District Judge (FTC) Muzaffarnagar Ravi Kumar Diwakar has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the former village head Pramod and his associate Sahdev after holding them guilty under Section 302 of the IPC. The court observed that the case fell in the rarest of rare cases. The court also said that the sentence will be subject to confirmation by the Allahabad High Court. Government lawyer Kuldeep Kumar told PTI that 60-year-old Rajbir Singh was shot dead over panchayat elections' enmity at Mandi village under Titawi police station in the district on August 24, 2010. The deceased's son, Pradeep Kumar, lodged an FIR in this connection. Police filed a charge sheet against the accused on December 13, 2010. PTI COR NAV SHS SHS
