UP: Balcony collapse kills woman, granddaughter in Bareilly

Bareilly (UP), Jul 5 (PTI) A 70-year-old woman and her six-year-old granddaughter died after the balcony of a dilapidated house collapsed in Bareilly district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place at Tursa village under the Shahi police station limits on Saturday, they said. According to villagers, Nattho Devi and her granddaughter Deepanjali were sitting on a cot on the balcony when it suddenly collapsed. The woman’s grandson Sandesh escaped unhurt as he had stepped out to buy a pencil when the tragedy struck. Shahi SHO Devendra Singh said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
