Ghazipur (UP), Jul 7 (PTI) Two Uttar Pradesh Police sub-inspectors have been suspended for allegedly attempting to weaken investigations into seven fraud cases involving firms accused of submitting forged documents during a recruitment process, an officer said on Tuesday.
The action was taken against Rohit Kumar and Jitendra Kumar Upadhyay -- posted at Ghazipur Kotwali police station -- on Monday by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varanasi Range, Vaibhav Krishna, who also ordered a detailed probe into the matter by the Ghazipur City Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The inquiry officer has been asked to submit a report within 30 days.
The cases stem from a complaint lodged on February 25, 2025, by the Block Education Officer of Ghazipur city, alleging that several firms had submitted forged documents while participating in a tender process for the recruitment of instructors.
According to the complaint, 176 firms had applied for the tender, of which seven were found to have allegedly furnished fake documents, including forged bank-related certificates.
During a review of the investigations on Monday, Krishna found that all seven firms had been excluded from the probe without adequate grounds. The review particularly noted that efforts appeared to have been made to shield Lucknow-based Vanshika HR Service.
Police said despite the allegations disclosing prima facie serious offences, attempts were made to submit final reports in the cases in haste, effectively weakening the investigations.
Holding the investigating officers prima facie responsible for weakening the cases and committing serious dereliction of duty, the DIG suspended the sub-inspectors with immediate effect, according to the order issued on Monday.
