Gurugram, Jul 7 (PTI) Police have arrested two Nigeria nationals for allegedly cheating a man through a fake social media profile. The accused allegedly posed as a foreign woman and claimed 'she' had run out of money at an Indian airport, manipulating the victim to transfer money online, an official said on Tuesday. According to police, on April 29, a person lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Manesar, stating he had received a friend request on Facebook from a profile named Kathlin. After accepting the request, the two started communicating over WhatsApp. The woman claimed to be a resident of UK and told the complainant she was visiting India. Subsequently, the complainant received a call from a person posing as a customs officer at Mumbai airport, who claimed that the woman had run out of money and required funds for customs verification. Believing the story, the complainant transferred Rs 63,500 into various bank accounts provided by the accused. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and police arrested two foreign nationals in this connection from Jawahar Park in Delhi on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Kelvin Ogbu (35), resident of Lagos, Nigeria and Kingsley Emeka Ojobo (35), resident of Aji, Nigeria. During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that Ojobo had arrived in India on a business visa in January 2026, while Kelvin Ogbu had entered India on a business visa in 2025. Ogbu had earlier visited India in 2023. The accused allegedly created a fake Facebook profile under the name Kathlin, befriended the complainant, and manipulated him by posing as a foreign woman, police said. "Verification of the accused's criminal records revealed that Kelvin Ogbu was previously involved in one case under the Foreigners Act registered in Delhi in 2024. We are questioning the accused," ACP (Cyber) Gaurav Fogat said. PTI COR ARB ARB
