Jamshedpur/Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Jul 17 (PTI) Two persons, including a man who was swept away while saving his two minor sons from drowning, died in separate incidents in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum districts on Friday, police said. In East Singhbhum district, a 22-year-old man drowned in Dimna Lake in Jamshedpur, while his younger brother managed to swim to safety, a police officer said. The deceased, identified as Ayush Kumar, a resident of Sonari in Jamshedpur, had gone to the lake with his younger brother Piyush on Friday morning when they entered the water for bathing. Ayush went into deep water and drowned despite efforts by his brother to save him, the officer said. Locals alerted police, who reached the spot and engaged divers to retrieve the body. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Patamda) Dayanand Kumar said the body was later recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. In a separate incident in neighbouring West Singhbhum district, a middle-aged man drowned in the Karo river after rescuing his two sons, aged four years and two-and-a-half years, from drowning. The victim, identified as Damu Hembram, a contract worker at a SAIL mine, had gone to the river under Gua police station limits with his sons when they were caught in a strong current, police said. Seeing his children in danger, Hembram jumped into the river and managed to save them, but was swept away by the current soon afterwards. Villagers launched a rescue operation and recovered Hembram, who was taken to Gua SAIL Hospital where doctors declared him dead. PTI COR BS MNB
