Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 17 (PTI) A court has sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for the 2013 murder of a 42-year-old fisherman at Valiyathura here. Thiruvananthapuram Additional Sessions Judge Sudhakanth R on Thursday sentenced Deepu alias Ajith and his brother Stellus to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each after finding them guilty of murdering Johnson, a native of Valiyathura. The court convicted both the accused under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder. The deceased and the accused were fishermen. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on January 27, 2013, after Johnson questioned the accused for taking away fish he had received as remuneration for helping retrieve a fishing net. Following an altercation, the brothers allegedly went to their house, returned with a knife and stabbed Johnson to death. During the trial, the court examined 21 witnesses and marked 11 material objects as evidence. Public Prosecutor R Praveenkumar appeared for the prosecution. PTI TBA TBA KH
