Agartala, Jul 17 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said his government would write to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for immediate repair works of highways in the state. This came hours after the Congress's Tripura unit president, Asish Kumar Saha, criticised the chief minister over the worsening condition of national highways in the northeastern state. "Following my directive, PWD Secretary Kiran Gittee reviews the condition of the national highways. A letter requesting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to undertake immediate repair work on the national highways will be sent shortly," Chief Minister Saha told reporters. He said that he had raised the issue with the Union minister during a visit to the national capital a month ago. "I had a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari over the connectivity issue. I apprised him about the condition of the national highways in the state. We are putting pressure on the ministry because it maintains the national highways", he said. Earlier in the day, Tripura Congress president Asish Kumar Saha had slammed CM Manik Saha, who is also in charge of the public works department portfolio, over the condition of the national highways in the state. "None of the national highways in Tripura are motorable. The government must improve the national highways at the earliest," he said. PTI PS NSD
