New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory warning commuters of congestion and advising them to use alternate routes, after a section of the Delhi-Jaipur carriageway on NH-48 caved in Gurugram.
Traffic movement towards Jaipur is likely to remain affected, with two lanes on the highway closed as a precaution, resulting in congestion stretching nearly 8 to 10 kilometres from IFFCO Chowk to Narsinghpur.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys, allow extra travel time, use the Urban Extension Road (UER)-Dwarka Expressway route wherever possible, and follow speed limits near the affected stretch, the Delhi Police’s advisory read.
The cave-in occurred after a portion of the highway collapsed at a location where the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was carrying out pipe culvert pushing works.
The cave-in came as the first spell of heavy monsoon rain lashed Gurugram on Tuesday afternoon, causing widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city.
Besides Narsinghpur, long traffic jams were reported from Basai, Hero Honda Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road, and Rajiv Chowk.
The Haryana government attributed the road collapse to heavy rainfall and announced traffic diversions for vehicles travelling from Delhi towards Jaipur.
Motorists have been advised to take the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) via Rajiv Chowk or Hero Honda Chowk, while those coming from Delhi have been asked to use the Dwarka Expressway.
According to an official statement, Gurugram received 82 mm of rainfall on Tuesday. PTI MSJ MSJ MPL MPL
