Lucknow, Jul 18 (PTI) Top leaders of the Janata Dal (United), including ministers from the Bihar government, will tour Uttar Pradesh to strengthen the party's organisation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, a senior party leader said on Saturday.
The move assumes significance as the JD(U) is a key constituent of the NDA and shares power in Bihar.
According to a press statement, the announcement followed a meeting of the party's Uttar Pradesh state executive in Lucknow, chaired by state president Anoop Singh Patel and attended by Bihar Rural Development Minister and JD(U) Legislature Party leader Shravan Kumar.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Patel said the party would organise conferences at the divisional, district and Assembly constituency levels, followed by a state-level convention to be attended by JD(U) national working president Sanjay Jha.
He said senior party leaders and Bihar ministers would undertake extensive organisational and public outreach programmes across Uttar Pradesh in the run-up to the 2027 polls.
The party also decided to begin identifying prospective candidates by inviting names from district units and state office-bearers. Patel said a final decision on the Assembly seats the party will contest will be taken after completing the organisational review.
Addressing the meeting, Shravan Kumar highlighted the Bihar government's welfare initiatives under Nitish Kumar's leadership, particularly in rural development and women empowerment. He urged party workers in Uttar Pradesh to take the party's development agenda to the people. PTI CDN ASD ASD
