Panaji, Jul 9 (PTI) Three fishermen were rescued after their canoe capsized in a river near Morjim beach in North Goa, officials said on Thursday.
The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday, following which a local resident alerted the Goa government-contracted agency responsible for lifeguard and beach safety services in the state.
A jet ski was deployed to the spot, and personnel from the agency rescued two fishermen from the water, while the third fisherman was safely assisted onto an accompanying canoe, they said.
Goa is currently witnessing the peak of the southwest monsoon, with strong winds, rough seas and turbulent waters making the coastline unsafe for swimming. Swimming remains prohibited at the state’s beaches during the monsoon season, while a seasonal fishing ban is also in force.
The agency, Drishti Marine, has deployed over 450 lifesavers and beach marshals across major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies in Goa to respond to emergencies during the monsoon, officials added. PTI RPS NR
