Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Jul 14 (PTI) Police here have booked three persons for abetting the suicide of a 24-year-old man who consumed a poisonous substance following alleged harassment over his live-in relationship, police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, Lakhvir, a driver, was in a live-in relationship with a woman from Bhatti Da Pind village in Dasuya for the past four to five months.
Police said the woman's relatives, identified as Billa and his uncle, both residents of Nangal Bihala village, along with another person, were opposed to the relationship and had allegedly been harassing Lakhvir.
They had also allegedly assaulted him two to three days before the incident.
Police said Lakhvir allegedly consumed a poisonous substance on July 12 and was first taken to the civil hospital in Dasuya.
He was later referred to a private hospital in Mukerian and was being shifted to another hospital in Jalandhar when he died on the way.
Police said before his death, Lakhvir told his family that he had consumed poison due to the harassment by the accused. His family also recorded his statement on video.
An FIR has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Dasuya police station on the complaint of the victim's brother, police said. PTI COR SUN ARB ARB
