Thane, Jul 15 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against the office superintendent of the Thane deputy registrar of cooperative societies for allegedly seeking a Rs 1.25‑lakh bribe to clear the registration of a proposed industrial cooperative, an official said Wednesday. The complainant had approached the district deputy registrar's office for the registration of a proposed Unity Industrial Park Premises Cooperative Society. During the course of the process, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh, of which Rs 1 lakh was meant for his senior officer and Rs 25,000 for himself, Thane ACB's Deputy Superintendent of Police Rupali Pol said. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB. Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification exercise, which substantiated the allegations, she said. "After verification confirmed the bribe demand, a case was registered against the accused at Thane Nagar police station on July 14 under the Prevention of Corruption Act," Pol said. An investigation into the offence is underway, she added. PTI COR GK
