Karimnagar (Telangana), July 23 (PTI) A 39-year-old man, who allegedly stole an RTC bus in Jagtial district and drove away it for about 15 km while under the "influence of alcohol" was intercepted after a chase and arrested, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as K Sambaiah, a resident of Nagaram village in Dharmapuri mandal, allegedly took away the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus from the Korutla bus station on Tuesday before its assigned driver reported for duty, they said.
According to police, Sambaiah drove the bus towards Nizamabad. He was allegedly intoxicated and drove the vehicle recklessly, posing a danger to other road users.
The bus reportedly hit a few motorcycles, causing minor injuries to their riders, police said.
A video circulating on social media showed the bus being pursued by police patrol vehicles and hitting a motorcyclist.
Earlier, after receiving a complaint from depot officials, police launched a search operation, chased the bus and intercepted it after it was driven for about 15 km, officials said.
The accused, a mechanic, was arrested and was later produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody, police added. PTI CORR VVK VVK SA
