Hyderabad, Jul 14 (PTI) The Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate here on Tuesday launched "Sahachari," a Community Policing initiative under the leadership of Police Commissioner B Sumathi.
The initiative aims to empower women with knowledge of their legal rights, personal safety, and the various services provided by the police department, enabling them to protect themselves, support women and children in distress, and actively contribute to crime prevention, an official release said.
Nearly 3,000 SHG women from across the Commissionerate participated in the programme which was conducted in two places.
Addressing the gathering, Sumathi stated that effective policing requires active public participation, and encouraged women to confidently approach the police, report crimes without fear, and create awareness within their communities.
She emphasized that "Sahachari" will build a strong grassroots network to promote timely reporting of crimes, enhance women and child safety, and strengthen police–community relations.
Participants were sensitized on women and child protection, cybercrime prevention, anti-drug awareness, emergency response, POCSO, NDPS offences, community policing, Bharosa Centres, SHE Teams, Women Police Stations, and other support mechanisms available for women and children.
During the sessions, the officers emphasised that when a woman is safe, her family is safe, and when families are safe, society becomes safer.
They encouraged SHG women to work closely with the police, report crimes without hesitation, and become active partners in creating safe and secure neighbourhoods.
Through "Sahachari", the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate aims to create a strong network of Community Safety Ambassadors who will promote public awareness, encourage timely reporting of crimes, and contribute towards building safer families, safer neighbourhoods, and a safer society, the release added.
