Bhopal, Jul 16 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Sports Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang on Thursday felicitated bowler Kranti Gaud for her outstanding performance which contributed to the Indian women's cricket team's historic 270-run Test victory against England at the iconic Lord's.
Gaud’s seven-wicket match haul played a major role in India's landslide victory.
Sarang met Gaud, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, at the TT Nagar Stadium here. She had brought glory not only to Madhya Pradesh but to the entire country, he said.
"Her achievement is an inspiration for the state's daughters and young athletes," the minister added.
The Mohan Yadav-led Madhya Pradesh government is encouraging sports talent, he said, adding that children from rural areas are now showcasing their talent at the national and international levels thanks to modern infrastructure, improved training facilities and the expansion of sports opportunities to rural areas.
"Being a part of India's victory at Lord's was the biggest moment of my life for me and my family," Gaud said on this occasion.
On seeing her name engraved on the prestigious Lord's Honours Board, she immediately shared the historic moment with her family via video call, she said.
"It's every cricketer's dream to have their name enshrined on the Honours Board. As the first Indian woman cricketer to have my name enshrined there, I am honoured. This achievement belongs not only to me, but to my family, my coaches, Madhya Pradesh, and the entire country," Gaud said. PTI MAS KRK
