Seven-year-old girl among three killed in Jharkhand accidents

Chatra/Palamu (Jharkhand), Jul 5 (PTI) Three persons, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Jharkhand over the past 24 hours, police said on Sunday. In Chatra district, a 40-year-old man was crushed to death by a coal-laden truck within Simaria police station limits on Sunday morning, officials said. The deceased, identified as Sahdev Yadav of Delho village, was returning home after relieving himself when the speeding vehicle hit him, Simaria circle officer Gaurav Kumar said. Following the incident, a large number of locals staged a road blockade on the Simaria-Chatra main road with the body, demanding adequate compensation for the victim's family. The blockade disrupted traffic for several hours. District administration and police officials urged the protesters to withdraw the blockade, assuring them that compensation would be provided as per government norms. However, the protesters refused to lift the blockade, and talks were underway, officials said. In another incident, a seven-year-old girl was killed and her father seriously injured after a SUV hit their motorcycle near Kariahar village within Patan police station in Palamu district on Saturday. Police said the SUV was seized after the accident. In Latehar district, a youth was killed and his younger brother injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Champa Ghati within Mahuatand police station area on Saturday. The victim, identified as Yashwant Nayak, and his younger brother Lokesh Nayak, both residents of Bengaluru, were travelling towards Patna with a consignment of electrical lift equipment when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend, police said.
