Jaipur, Jul 7 (PTI) A two-month pregnant wife of a contractual nursing employee, who died by suicide last month, allegedly consumed poison in Dausa district on Monday, police said on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Karishma Kharwal, was rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur in a serious condition. After initial treatment at the emergency ward, she was shifted to the ICU, where her condition is said to be stable.
Doctors said she is being closely monitored in view of her pregnancy and the effects of the poison.
Karishma's husband Deepak Kharwal (25), a nursing staff member at the Women's Hospital, Sanganeeri Gate in Jaipur, had allegedly taken his own life on June 12 after being removed from the job.
Family members said Karishma was distressed following her husband's death.
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully and Congress MLA Rafeek Khan visited the hospital and met her family members, assuring them of all possible help.
Jully spoke to the principal secretary of the medical department and demanded better treatment for the woman.
"The government has become so insensitive that even the death of a contractual employee does not affect it. The son of the family is no more, his pregnant wife is battling for life, yet the government remains silent. This is not just administrative failure but a cruel injustice to an entire family," Jully said in a statement.
He urged Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to take immediate cognisance of the matter and fulfil the promises made to the grieving family. PTI SDA KSI KSI
