Puducherry pays tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his 35th death anniversary

Puducherry, May 21 (PTI) Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan, ministers, legislators and officials of the Puducherry administration were among those who paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his statue on the occasion of his 35th death anniversary, observed here on Thursday. AINRC legislator and former Deputy Speaker P Rajavelu administered the anti-terrorism pledge to those present at the venue. Earlier, the lieutenant governor administered the pledge to the staff of his office at Lok Niwas, while Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan separately administered the anti-terrorism pledge to the staff at his office. Leaders and delegates of various wings of the Indian National Congress observed Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial day at the party office here. Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944, in Mumbai and was assassinated in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991. He served as India's prime minister from October 31, 1984, to December 2, 1989. Member of Parliament and former PCC president V Vaithilingam, former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, and freedom fighters were among those present. PTI COR SSK
