Nagpur, Jul 12 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said his government has approved a draft to construct 145 overbridges in the next three years to make the state free of railway level crossings.
The CM was speaking after he and Union minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated four rail overbridges (ROBs), four underpasses and one rail underpass (RUB) constructed by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail).
The nine projects inaugurated during the day include ROBs in Nagpur, Sangli, Satara, Nashik and Amravati, the CM said.
He congratulated MahaRail and its managing director Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal for completing the nine works here in record time while maintaining excellent quality.
"These works will benefit a large number of citizens. Every year, 21,000 persons die in the country at railway level crossings. Therefore, the Maharashtra government has decided the state should be free of railway level crossings. Subsequently, with the help of the Railway Ministry and the ministry (road transport and highways) under Gadkari, MahaRail will build flyovers at remaining level crossings," he said.
The Mahayuti government will take loans and will complete all these flyovers so that there is no level crossing in Maharashtra.
MahaRail has submitted a proposal of 145 flyovers for approval and it has assured that these will be built in the next three years, Fadnavis added. PTI CLS BNM
