Malappuram (Kerala), Jul 16 (PTI) More than 400 grams of MDMA has been seized from a man in this district, police said on Thursday.
The arrested man, Anil (44) alias Thupran Mani, is a native of Kannadipadi in Vengara, they added.
The District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) had been monitoring Anil for the past few days following a tip-off that he had procured a large quantity of drugs and was attempting to sell them On Wednesday evening, a police team along with DANSAF traced the accused in a car parked under the railway overbridge at Angadipuram.
On spotting the police, the accused allegedly attempted to flee but was intercepted with the help of residents, police said.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of multiple packets of drugs concealed inside the car's AC vent.
The packets were found to contain 405.64 grams of MDMA, valued at over Rs 15 lakh in the illicit market, police said.
Police said the accused was previously involved in five narcotics cases and two assault cases.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he had allegedly procured the drugs from Bengaluru and sold them at higher prices in Kerala, police said. PTI TBA TBA ADB
