Gurugram, Jul 14 (PTI) Gurugram Traffic Police issued 1,847 challans and imposed fines totalling Rs 18.47 lakh during a special drive against triple riding on two-wheelers in June, officials said on Tuesday.
The drive was conducted from June 1 to June 30, during which action was taken against motorists found violating traffic rules by carrying more than one pillion rider, a senior traffic police officer said.
Triple riding is prohibited under Section 128 read with Section 194C of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which allows only one pillion rider on a two-wheeler.
"Gurugram Traffic Police appeals to the public to avoid dangerous practices such as triple riding and encourage family members, especially children, to follow traffic rules. Compliance with traffic regulations is the responsibility of every citizen and is essential to ensure everyone's safety," the officer said.
He said the police are also conducting awareness campaigns through LED display vans and outreach programmes at schools, colleges, offices, industrial units, metro stations and residential areas to encourage adherence to traffic rules and reduce road accidents. PTI COR APL APL
