Guwahati, Jul 14 (PTI) A localised surface low-intensity gas bubbling phenomenon at Napam Baruwati in Geleki field of ONGC’s Assam Asset has been sealed, a company statement said on Tuesday.
The bubbling, which had been reported for about a week, was confined to a single location.
The energy major said that a multidisciplinary team of experts was deployed and the site was secured through barricading, with continuous surveillance and methane monitoring.
Very low quantities of methane was detected using the hand-held gas detectors, it said.
“ONGC has verified all available pipeline drawings, and conducted a physical examination of the area using underground pipeline-locating equipment. These investigations have ruled out the presence of any buried pipeline beneath or in the vicinity of the location,” the statement said.
The point where gas was bubbling has been excavated, and the pit was sealed off on Monday using a chemical barite treatment followed by a cement-concrete mixture, it said.
Bubbling has subsided since the treatment, and the situation is stable and under control, the statement added. PTI SSG RBT
