Chennai, Jul 17 (PTI) As many as nine redeveloped Amrit stations under Southern Railway were among the 75 such stations inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
According to the Southern Railway, Chennai Park (Chennai division), Chinnasalem and Coonoor (Salem division) and Chalakudi and Angamali for Kaladi (both in Thiruvananthapuram division) were inaugurated, an official press release said.
In Palakkad division, Tirur, Thalassery, Parpanangadi and Nilambur Road were dedicated to the nation. Ceremonial functions were held at all the nine stations in the presence of elected representatives, and eminent personalities.
The main function was held at Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in Punjab where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 75 redeveloped Amrit stations across the country through video conferencing, including nine stations under Southern Railway. The function was live-streamed at all the nine stations.
In Chennai, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, noted business leader Nalli Kuppusamy Chetti participated in the inaugural function held at Chennai Park Railway Station.
PM Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of rail and road infrastructure projects, including 75 redeveloped railway stations, worth Rs 5,470 crore from Jalandhar.
The projects are aimed at strengthening connectivity, improving passenger convenience and accelerating economic development in the region. PTI VGN VGN ROH
