Bhopal, Jul 9 (PTI) Taking a cue from 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board has launched a drive to plant five lakh saplings at graveyards, mosques and 'idgahs' across the state by the end of the ongoing rainy season. The drive, which is being called 'Ek Ped Apne Bujurgon Ke Naam' (planting a tree in the name of elders), began on May 25 and saplings have been planted in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Bhind and other districts, MP Waqf Board chairman Sanwar Patel told PTI on Thursday. "The drive is receiving tremendous response. The initiative aims to protect the environment and provide shade at religious places and graveyards. We plan to plant five lakh saplings in the open spaces of our properties by the end of the ongoing rainy season," he said while pointing out that the board has huge properties in Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain. The Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board holds titles to 14,962 properties across the state, the second highest after Uttar Pradesh, he claimed. 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" is a nationwide tree plantation campaign that encourages people to plant a tree in honour of their mothers and contribute to nature conservation. PTI LAL BNM
