Man sentenced to 6 years RI for attempt to sexually assault schoolgirl

Kottayam (Kerala), Jul 6 (PTI) A local court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to six years of rigorous imprisonment for trying to sexually assault a 16-year-old schoolgirl after forcing her onto his scooter. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 9,000 on the convict and ordered that the entire amount be given to the survivor as compensation. The order was passed by Changanassery Fast Track Special Court Judge Ranjith Krishnan in a case registered by the Changanassery police in 2023. The convict has been identified as Sherif, a resident of Veroor village in Chethipuzha. According to police records, he is the son of Zainudheen and was living on rent in the Vadakkekara Jamaath Mosque quarters at Purakkadavu near Enachira Kurish. Advocate P S Manoj, the Special Public Prosecutor who appeared for the state, presented the case. To prove the guilt of the accused, the prosecution produced detailed documentary evidence and examined 25 witnesses during the trial. PTI COR TGB KH
