Man sentenced to 42 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor in Kozhikode

Kozhikode (Kerala), Jul 6 (PTI) A court on Monday sentenced a 56-year-old man to 42 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl here. Nadapuram Fast Track Special Court Judge Devan K Menon found Chandran (56), a resident of Kallipperambil, Peruvannamuzhi here, guilty in the case and sentenced him to 42 years of rigorous imprisonment. Chandran was employed at the Koothali District Agricultural Farm, a Central Government institution. Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Aroor said that the assault occurred on multiple days in January 2024. The convict lured the victim—a third-standard student—into his house while she was playing with his grandchildren and sexually assaulted her. The day after the incident, the child revealed the incident to the school Headmaster, after which the authorities promptly alerted the police. Peruvannamuzhi Police registered a case, conducted the investigation and filed the charge sheet at the court. During the trial, the prosecution examined 18 witnesses and produced 26 documents to prove the crime, Aroor said. Meanwhile, the defence side examined three witnesses and produced one document.
