Garhwa, Jul 10 (PTI) A 50-year-old man died after being attacked by a wild elephant in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Friday, officials said. The incident took place in Sinjo village under Ranka police station limits, when an elephant struck Indradev Yadav with its trunk, after he stepped out of his house, they said. “The body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination,” Ranka police station officer-in-charge Ravi Keshri said. Ranka Forest Ranger Ajay Toppo said the victim’s family has been provided Rs 1 lakh as immediate relief, while the rest of the compensation will be given after completing other formalities. The Jharkhand government provides Rs 10 lakh as compensation in case of death caused by wild animal attacks. On June 15, the government hiked the ex gratia amount for deaths caused by wild animal attacks from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. PTI CORR RPS RBT
