Gadchiroli, Jul 9 (PTI) A 38-year-old man was killed in a wild elephant attack in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, an official said on Thursday. The incident took place at around 6:30pm on Wednesday when Dhanraj Madavi, a resident of Mendha village, was returning home on a bicycle with some others on the road leading to Chandala, he said. "While others managed to escape to safety after abandoning their bicycles, Madavi could not. The elephant chased him, lifted him with its trunk, slammed him to the ground and trampled him to death. The on-spot panchnama was conducted by a team under Range Forest Officer Balaji Bhendekar," the official informed. The forest department had earlier issued an advisory warning residents about the movement of a herd of elephants in Chandala area, and had urged them to avoid roads close to the forest.
