Man killed after speeding SUV runs him over in Delhi's Rajouri Garden; driver absconding

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) A 35-year-old man died after a speeding SUV allegedly ran over him in the Rajouri Garden area here while he was standing by the roadside with his friend, police said on Sunday. The accident took place on Saturday night in West Delhi and the victim has been identified as Uday Mahato, a resident of Khyala. "A speeding SUV hit Mahato, while his friend narrowly escaped," an eyewitness told police. Police said the SUV driver fled the scene and Mahato's friend informed the family and rushed him to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Family members, including the deceased’s wife and two children, demanded the arrest of the absconding driver. Police reached the spot after receiving information, initiated an investigation, and registered a case, saying efforts are underway to identify and trace the offending vehicle.
