Palghar, Jun 26 (PTI) A man was arrested in Tamil Nadu over 12 years after he allegedly killed his mother-in-law in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Friday. The arrest of the accused Mohammad Ajmal Mohammad Mansuri Ansari, now 42, was made after the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar police renewed their focus on unsolved homicide cases within their jurisdiction, officials said. Ansari, who hailed from Bihar’s Munger district, allegedly killed his mother-in-law Sanjida Mohammad Kayum at Devipada Gokhivare in Vasai in September 2013 after apparently not being allowed to see his newborn child, they said. Initial tracking in Ansari’s village in Bihar showed that he had never returned home after committing the crime in 2013, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Madan Ballal. Subsequent investigation led the police to arrest Ansari from Minjur in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on June 24, 2026, he said. “Ansari said he was deeply resentful of his wife and mother-in-law, who he claimed were preventing him from meeting his newborn child,” the official said. After killing his mother-in-law, Ansari hid at his sister’s house in Kolkata for four to five days. He fled to Tamil Nadu and worked there as a construction labourer for five to six years. He then relocated to Punjab for a year before returning to Tamil Nadu, the official said. PTI COR NR
