Arwal (Bihar), Jul 14 (PTI) A man arrested for drinking alcohol in the dry state of Bihar died in police custody on Tuesday. Officials said the man had fallen ill while in custody, even though his kin alleged that he was beaten up by the police.
Arwal's Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kumar Sanjay said that 46-year-old Anil Kumar was among three people who were taken into police police custody for drinking liquor.
"Kumar's health reportedly deteriorated while in custody, and he was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead," he told PTI.
However, Anil Kumar's family members alleged that police beat him up, and an FIR has been registered based on their complaint, the police officer said.
"The post-mortem is being conducted, and the exact cause of the death could be ascertained only after results arrive," he added. PTI SUK NSD
