Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Jul 17 (PTI) A 27-year-old man, allegedly kidnapped by six men in an SUV who intercepted and rammed his motorcycle before assaulting him, was later found dead with multiple gunshot injuries, police said on Friday. They said the victim, Manjeet Singh alias Gani (27), was later found unconscious near a government school on the Binewal road with multiple injuries, including gunshot wounds to his legs. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Garhshankar, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said. According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday. Manjeet of Bhawanipur village, and his friend Suraj Kumar were returning home on a motorcycle after visiting Jhungian Adda and near a petrol pump at Jhonowal, an SUV allegedly intercepted and rammed their motorcycle, they said. Police said Rajan Singh, Simranjit Singh, and four unidentified persons allegedly got out of the vehicle, assaulted Manjeet and forcibly took him away in the SUV before fleeing towards Binewal village. Station House Officer (SHO) of Garhshankar Police Station, Inspector Gagandeep Singh, said the preliminary investigation suggested that an old enmity between the accused and the deceased was the possible motive behind the murder. He said police have registered a case against Rajan Singh alias Raja of Achalpur village, Simranjit Singh alias Fauji of Bhawanipur village and four unidentified accomplices under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Police said the SUV's registration plate broke off and fell at the spot during the incident. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the accused, and an investigation is underway, he said.
