Maharashtra Cong to launch stir on July 7 over Ram Temple donation irregularities

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal

Editorial

Mumbai, Jul 6 (PTI) The Maharashtra Congress on Monday announced a statewide agitation starting July 7 to protest against alleged irregularities in donations made to the Ram temple in Ayodhya, demanding stringent action against those involved. The party, in a statement, said the campaign would begin with a protest at the Kalaram Temple in Nashik at 11 am on Tuesday in the presence of Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal. The Congress alleged that donations, including cash and gold offered by devotees to Lord Ram, had been misappropriated by persons linked to the RSS and the BJP, and demanded stringent action against those responsible. The party said it would organise a statewide “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram Satyagraha” from July 9 to 14 at temples dedicated to Lord Ram, Shiva or Hanuman across Maharashtra, where party workers would hold peaceful protests and prayers seeking action against those allegedly involved in the misuse of devotees’ donations. The alleged embezzlement of Ram temple donations came to light on June 7. Later, an FIR was registered on June 25 following a preliminary report by the Special Investigation Team constituted by the UP government. Eight persons associated with the temple’s donation and counting process have been arrested in the case, and the investigation is continuing. PTI MR ARU
