Bengaluru, Jul 12 (PTI) The Lokayukta police have approached Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot seeking a nod to prosecute former minister and Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan in a disproportionate assets case, sources said.
Khan has been accused of amassing assets worth around Rs 25 crore beyond his known sources of income, they said on Saturday.
Lokayukta police are said to have submitted documents seeking approval to file a charge sheet before the Special Lokayukta Court.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge, reacting to a question on Lokayukta approaching the governor, said, "Whatever the procedure is, let them follow. Nobody is above the law of the land. We will see what the reasons are. I have not looked into what the Lokayukta has said. I will have a look at it and then only I will be able to comment better." According to sources, while probing the IMA Ponzi scam, the ED searched premises linked to Khan way back in August 2021.
Later, the ED transferred the matter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau for further investigation.
After the ACB was abolished in the state, the case was handed over to the Lokayukta for further probe.
