Ladakh police deploys sniffer dogs to check drug smuggling

Kargil/Jammu, Jul 2 (PTI) In a bid to strengthen its anti-narcotics drive, Ladakh Police has deployed trained K-9 sniffer dogs at police post Minamarg in Drass to prevent the supply and trafficking of narcotic substances into the Union territory.
The deployment, undertaken by district police Drass, is aimed at enhancing surveillance and tightening checks along the strategic route leading into Ladakh, officials said.
According to police, the highly trained sniffer dogs are capable of detecting narcotic substances concealed in vehicles, luggage and on individuals, thereby improving the effectiveness of screening and enforcement operations.
Police said the initiative forms part of its sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and safeguard the region from the menace of narcotics.
District Police Drass reiterated its commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and said it would continue adopting advanced measures to combat the illegal trade in narcotic substances.
The police also appealed to the public and commuters to cooperate during checking and screening operations, stating that public support is crucial for effective enforcement and ensuring the safety and security of the region. PTI COR/AB AB AMJ AMJ
