Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 6 (PTI) BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday welcomed the Centre's decision to operate more than 100 special trains to and from Kerala during the Onam season, saying it would bring relief to thousands of Malayalis working and studying in different parts of the country. In a statement, Chandrasekhar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the special services after considering requests from Kerala. On Monday, Vaishnaw announced that more than 100 special trains will be operated during the Onam season in August this year. "To my friends in Kerala, I would like to share with you that we will be running more than 100 special trains during the Onam festival," he said in a video shared on his social media accounts. Chandrasekhhar said Onam is the most important festival for Malayalis and travelling home to celebrate it with their families is a cherished wish for many. According to him, the additional special trains would ease travel congestion and ensure safer and more convenient journeys for passengers. "The decision reflected the Centre's commitment to responding promptly to the needs and aspirations of ordinary people," he said. Describing the move as a reflection of Prime Minister Modi's concern and commitment towards the people of Kerala, he thanked the Central government on behalf of the state's people for facilitating the additional train services during the festival season.
