Jharkhand: Woman jumps into well with her two children, minors die

Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Jul 12 (PTI) Two children died in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district after their mother, along with them, jumped into a well allegedly in a fit of rage over a family dispute, police said on Sunday. The woman was rescued by villagers, a senior officer said. The incident occurred at Horiya village in Katkamsandi block on Saturday night when Chanchala Devi, along with her daughter and son, jumped into the well, he said. Katkamsandi Police Station officer-in-charge Anupam Prakash said, "Villagers pulled all three out of the well and took them to the nearest government hospital, where a doctor declared the minors dead. The woman is undergoing treatment." Her daughter was two-and-a-half years old, while her son was one year old. "We are questioning the family members, relatives and villagers to ascertain the cause for which the woman took this drastic step. Preliminary investigations point to a family dispute. The bodies of the children have been sent for post-mortem examinations at Sadar Hospital, Hazaribag," the police officer said. PTI ANB BDC
