Medininagar (Jharkhand), Jul 9 (PTI) Two girls drowned after their mother allegedly threw them into a well before jumping into it herself following a domestic dispute in Jharkhand's Palamu district, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place in Kanda village within Nawabazar police station limits on Wednesday night.
The deceased children were aged two and three years, police said.
Vishrampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chiranjivi Mandal said the bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
"According to preliminary investigation, the woman had a dispute with her husband and mother-in-law over some issues. Losing control, she threw her two daughters into the well near the house and then jumped in herself," Mandal said.
Villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The woman was rescued, but the children had died by the time they were pulled out of the well, he said.
The woman has been taken into police custody, and an investigation has been initiated, the officer said.
"Interrogation of the people related to the case is underway. Actual cause of the incident will be revealed once the investigation is completed," Mandal said. PTI COR SAN SAN MNB
