Jharkhand man kills daughter, relative dies trying to save her

Dumka, Jul 12 (PTI) A 45-year-old man allegedly hacked his 13-year-old daughter to death and critically injured his elderly cousin, who later succumbed to injuries, in Jharkhand's Dumka district, police said on Sunday. The accused has been arrested following the incident, which took place on Saturday night, they said. Preliminary investigation suggests that the man attacked his daughter in a fit of rage over a domestic issue, though the exact motive is yet to be ascertained, police said. "When the accused was assaulting his daughter, his cousin and cousin's daughter intervened to rescue her. The accused then attacked them with bricks, leaving both seriously injured. The cousin later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Deoghar," Saraiyahat police station's in-charge Rajendra Kumar told reporters. The cousin's 22-year-old daughter, who also sustained injuries in the attack, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police said they are interrogating the accused to ascertain the motive behind the killings.
