Giridih (Jharkhand), Jul 13 (PTI) The Jharkhand government's labour department has contacted the Indian Embassy in the UAE to confirm reports about the death of a migrant worker in that country, an official said. If the reports turned out to be true, the authorities would make arrangements to bring back the body of the worker who hailed from Bagodar area of Giridih district, the official said. Team leader of the state migrant control cell, Shikha Lakra, told PTI that they have got information about the death of Lalchand Mahato (40) after falling ill in Dubai. “We have sent the details given by the family members to the Indian Embassy in the UAE about confirmation of the death and subsequent arrangements to bring back the body,” the official said. Sikander Ali, a social worker who has been espousing the cause of migrant workers and had met the family members of the migrant worker, said that Mahato had gone to Dubai in January. “After working there for about two months, he was laid off by the company. Following the loss of his job, he struggled to find work and accommodation. His difficulties were further compounded when he lost his passport and visa. His family made continuous efforts and pleaded for help to bring him back home,” said Ali. He said that a few days ago, some migrant workers from Jharkhand who work in Dubai contacted Mahato and provided him with food and began efforts to facilitate his return to India. However, his associates later informed the family of his illness and death, Ali said. PTI ANB NN
