Srinagar, Jul 14 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of former minister and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s uncle, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, who breathed his last after a prolonged illness. Kamal, a veteran National Conference (NC) leader and brother of three-time J-K former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital here. He was 83. Kamal was also the NC's Additional General Secretary. Several political leaders and parties also expressed grief over the NC leader's demise. “I am deeply saddened by the news of veteran leader Dr Mustafa Kamal's passing away. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, well-wishers, and admirers. Om Shanti!” Sinha said on X. Paying tribute, the National Conference, in its statement, said Kamal devoted decades of his life to public service and to strengthening the ideals and legacy of the party. "His unwavering commitment, principled leadership, and steadfast dedication to the people of Jammu & Kashmir earned him immense respect across political and social spheres. His passing is an irreparable loss not only to the National Conference family but also to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, who will always remember his contributions with gratitude and respect,' the party said. The party said that it stands in solidarity with Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, the bereaved family, and all those mourning this profound loss. "May Almighty Allah grant Dr Mustafa Kamal Sahib the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous, and bless his family with strength, patience, and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss," the NC said. Former chief minister and chief of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad, described Kamal as a seasoned leader. "Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Mustafa Kamal sahib. He was a seasoned political leader who served J&K with commitment & dedication over several decades. My heartfelt condolences to Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahib, Omar Abdullah Sahib, the entire Abdullah family and all his admirers,” Azad said. “May the Almighty Allah grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannat and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss," he added. Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari said Kamal will always be remembered as one of the most graceful politicians. "He was a distinguished leader, and his passing is a great loss. May Almighty Allah grant him eternal peace, and bless him with the highest place in Jannah. My deepest condolences to Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahib, Omar Abdullah Sahib, and the other members of the family.
