Shajapur, Jul 9 (PTI) In the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday, BJP MLA Ghanshyam Chandravanshi vowed to not wear shoes and slippers till roads are constructed in his Kalapipal constituency in Shajapur district. His remarks, at a programme at the Krishi Upaj Mandi where Yadav inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects costing Rs 30 crore appeared to make several leaders on the dais uncomfortable, while some of those in the gathering applauded. Addressing the gathering before the CM's speech, Chandravanshi raised the issue of poor roads in his constituency and said, "I give up wearing shoes and slippers until the roads in my assembly constituency are built. Even if it takes 10 years, I will not wear footwear until roads are constructed." During the programme, minister Inder Singh Parmar was seen approaching the MLA after a gesture from the Chief Minister and spoke to him, following which Chandravanshi changed the subject. Responding to the remarks, CM Yadav said the local MLA had spoken in an emotional moment. "We do not need to give up our shoes. Our dear and simple MLA has said this in emotion. More than five lakh kilometres of roads have been built in our state. We are not so weak that we have to remove our shoes and slippers. Our footwear helps us move forward, and no obstacle or force in the world can stop our path," Yadav said. Advising him to be careful about his words, Yadav told the MLA there was no need to give up footwear for a good and honest cause. Asserting that his government believed in development, Yadav lambasted the Congress, claiming the party always worked to create divisions among states. In 2022, then Madhya Pradesh energy minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar had announced he would walk barefoot in Gwalior until roads were repaired. He resumed wearing footwear 66 days later following a request from Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. PTI COR LAL BNM
