Bilaspur (HP), July 9 (PTI) The Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh has ranked 17th in India among the 100 selected districts under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said on Thursday. Congratulating the officers, Kumar asked heads of all departments to set annual goals and work in a planned manner to ensure at least 10 per cent progress each year under the scheme, which aims to boost crop productivity in the selected districts. The deputy commissioner (DC) also placed special emphasis on regular reviews of departmental achievements, timely target achievement and better results. He further said a review meeting will be held on the 4th of every month to establish better coordination between departments and accelerate the implementation of the schemes. He informed the members in the meeting that the central government has selected 100 districts across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana, Bilaspur being the only district from Himachal Pradesh among them. This is an important opportunity for the district to bring about comprehensive changes in agriculture and related sectors, Kumar said. The DC said that the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is not limited to increasing agricultural productivity, but is a comprehensive campaign to increase farmers' income, promote modern and sustainable agriculture, better utilise natural resources and promote the overall development of agriculture and related sectors. The scheme works on six key objectives – increasing agricultural productivity, promoting crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, developing post-harvest storage and processing facilities, strengthening irrigation infrastructure, improving access to short-term and long-term agricultural loans for farmers and improving good governance and service delivery. Kumar urged all departments to work responsibly under a common action plan so that the district's farmers can reap the maximum benefits of the scheme, and Bilaspur can establish itself as a strong leader among the nationally performing districts.
